lyrics

Gospelflash:

…The prophecy predicts there will come a day when our geographical nomenclature will be made manifest. This is the story of what happened when that day arrived in Los Angeles, California. God’s architecture always works with the bricks we’ve built. And He always sends emissaries in forms the locals will instinctively worship…

naked angels didn’t descend –
they came crashing
down, crushing traffic
in the fashion district
laughing out hymns
chortling out poems
brass saxophone bones
blown wild by the zephyrs
networks overloaded
fires—wires—lepers—
delphinium wavelengths
peace to twelve-steppers
grease in a hot pan
slices of chili peppers
chefs left breathless
streets sleek with asbestos
tears of adoration
flooding over the misfits
‘cause such fun when punishment
comes from rebel mythics
cryptic triptychs
depicted the scene,
silk screened dreams
on denim in three screens:
one – the angels’ wild tresses
and shredded dresses
two – wings melting away
under the stresses
three – God’s stern words
burn infernos of discipline
cold packs of lecithin
Heaven blessing the medicine
feminine level exceeding
the circuitry of earthly gentlemen
exploded into ephemera
mediated on camera
thank Allah for surgeons
among the Los Angeles rabbles
babbling mantras
crashing the Playboy mansion
bunnies bugging the smug
plugging into the Charlie Manson
foyer to parlor, a star in
velvet smoking jacket
Like: what’s up, doc?
hair clean but unkempt
face obscured by lingering
smoke ribbons and mint,
a chin here, eye there
now the hint of a smile,
bibliophile in the wreckage
of carnal knowledge compiled
